Music by The Piano Brothers

Eugene "Buddy" Thrasher, 76, of Thrasher Lane, Midland died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at his residence.  Born on October 11, 1937 in Midland he was the son of the late John Nelson Thrasher and Pansy (Fazenbaker) Thrasher.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers, James, Raymond, Lorraine, Ernest, John and Paul and two sisters, Arminta Robertson and Evelyn Robinette.

His life experiences include: working for his brother, Jim and delivering milk with his brothers, Lorraine and Ernest. He was the co-owner of Thrasher Coal Company and T+L Coal Company. He was employed by Tower Resources Company. A member of the Local 37, he worked as a machine operator, crane operator on many jobs throughout the region.

Buddy was a Lifetime Member of the Midland Volunteer Fire Company with over 25 years service. He served the fire company and his community in many ways; bingo every Thursday and President of the Fire Company.  He served as President of Midland Volunteer Fire Company for over 20 years, the longest term a single person has ever served. He was honored as  Fireman of the Year in 1988 and 2003.

He was also a member of the former George's Creek Cruisers and the Midland Sportsman's Club.

Buddy was a man who could do pretty much anything you needed, sometimes not in the conventional way, but he could make it work. If it was broke, he could fix it. He was always available to help the town when needed with ballpark projects and snow removal.

His joy in life was his family. He was always there to help when needed. His second love in life was farming and animals. A collector of tractors, his favorite RED International/Farmall- Oliver (and one John Deere). He believed in using them all in making hay for his horses. We believe he is in heaven now plowing his fields and caring for his animals that went before him.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda; two sons, Tom and wife Belinda of Frostburg and Todd and wife Jeri of Midland; his pride and joy his grandson, Jason and special friend Megan ; one sister, Mabel Marble of Ohio; one brother-in-law, Paul Shearer and wife Kathryn of Midland; numerous nieces and nephews and special 4 legged friends, his cat Billie, his horses Mikie and Gracie and his chickens.

Our sympathy to Brenda and family. Buddy was a friend to all. We will
always remember him hauling hay and helping out his friends when they needed advice. A fellow Operating Engineer, Buddy rode with me to Williamsport daily for a while. He told me lots of stories about Bull and my dad Dewey, and the coal they all stripped. I thanked him for his stories and being my friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
