Gary Richard Llewellyn, 67, of Pekin died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland after a courageous battle with cancer. He won two battles but lost the third after many months of hard fighting. As in life and at his passing Gary was a donor. Donation was limited, through Living Legacy, to his eyes due to the cancer.

Born at Miner’s Hospital, Frostburg on February 2, 1948, he was the son of the late James Alpine Llewellyn and Hazel Warnick Mason.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Wilson, his grandparents Troxell and Laura (Broadwater) Warnick and David and Bertha (Coleman) Llewellyn and his lifelong friend and buddy Thomas A. Wilson.

Gary was a 1966 graduate of Valley High School. He worked at Mineral Pigments, Bayliner, Memorial Hospital, Celanese, and Pilgrims Pride. Anyone who knew Gary knew he was an avid hunter and fisherman. In the spring he would chase turkeys and hunt for shed antlers. He would spend numerous hours scouting for his son, grandsons and granddaughters. He taught his children and grandchildren to respect and love the outdoors. All five of his grandchildren were the reasons he kept fighting to enjoy more hunting, fishing and vacations.

He was a member of the Barton Athletic Association where he helped coach baseball and soccer. He was also a member of George’s Creek Ambulance Service till sickness sidelined him.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Pamela (Steele) Llewellyn; one son, James R. Llewellyn and wife Kim of Barton; one daughter, Roberta Llewellyn Green and husband Dave of Frostburg; five grandchildren who were the love of his life, David and Dakota Green of Frostburg and Emily, Lexy and Treyten Gary Llewellyn of Barton; two brothers, James Llewellyn and wife Barbara of Georgia and Thomas Llewellyn and wife Donna of North Carolina; one sister, Shirley Metheney and husband Terry of Rawlings; step-father, William Mason of South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Garvin Steele and wife Shirley of Jessup, James Steele and wife Margaret of Florida and Robert Steele and wife Susan of New York; one sister-in-law, Sonja Thompson and husband Paul of New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 10:00AM with Rev. Fred Iser officiating. Entombment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Cumberland.

The family would like thank Dr. Zaman, Dr. Gupta, Dr. Allaway, the Cancer Center at WMRMC and UPMC Passavant for the exceptional care Gary was given throughout his battle with cancer.

God shed you Light of Love and Peace upon Gary. Give Gary's family comfort and assurance that Gary is in Your Loving arms and with family members that were waiting to go from here to there. We say, he is going but they say here he comes......I pray that we all have that assurance of God and of our returning home at the end of our lives. I am very sorry for your loss. I met Gary at the Restaurant about 4 years ago. He touched my life than and now. He is truly a wonderful person. (602) 574-9683
