Betty Ester Powell, 82, of Crystal Run Road, Lonaconing died Sunday, August 16, 2015 at her residence. Born in Lonaconing on July 14, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Edward Frances Powell and Esther Rebecca (Robertson) Powell.

Betty was a graduate of Central High School and she attended beauty school. She was a hairdresser for 30 years and owned and operated Valley Hair Ways. She was also owner/manager of Powell’s Grocery for 20 years.

She is survived by her daughter Mollie Lawrence and son-in-law Marc Lawrence of Lonaconing; two grandchildren Madison Lawrence and Max Lawrence; one brother Bill Powell Sr. and wife Anna Lee; nephews and niece Dick Henry, Rick Powell, Scott Powell, Rupert Powell, Tracey Powell, and special nephew Billy Powell Jr. and wife Susan.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6-9PM at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00AM with Rev. Alexa Smith officiating. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the caregivers who took excellent care of Betty: Joyce Ritchie, Delores Morgan, Connie Ritchie and Michelle McKenzie.

Also a special thank you from the family to all those who work with Home Hospice Care including: Dr. Tan, Dr. Wagoner, Ann Porter, Jeannie VanFleet and Barb Simmons.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lonaconing or Allegany Hospice Care.
