Marion Weber Tibbetts, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday January 3, 2016 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
She was born on September 26, 1926; the only child of Florence W. and Carl L. Weber, of Lonaconing. She graduated from Central High School in the class of 1944. Her activities include being a member of the girls’ basketball team, co-editor of the school newspaper, and member of the Quilt and Scroll Honor Society.
Marion graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She later attended the University of Maryland Evening College; received her Associate of Arts degree from Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Maryland; and also completed requirements to receive her Certification in Community Health.
Her career include operating room nurse at Miners Hospital in Frostburg; Operating room Supervisor at Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland; and Head Nurse in Labor and Delivery at Prince George’s General Hospital in Cheverly, Maryland. She went on to work for over 20 years in the Dorchester County Health department in Cambridge, Maryland. She retired from there as Director of Clinical Services in 1987. A Citation from the Governor of Maryland was presented to her at her retirement dinner for her “Services to the Women and Children of Dorchester County”. She had many good and lasting friendships in Cambridge, but always loved the mountains and considered Western Maryland her home. Following her retirement she returned to this area to care for her parents.
Family was always at the center of her life.  In 1950 Marion married Ernest Townshend Tibbetts of Oakland, Maryland. He died in 1976. She is survived by her three sons, David A. Tibbetts of Annapolis; James L. Tibbetts of Odenton, Maryland; and Roger T. Tibbetts and wife Sally of Pryor, Oklahoma. Through Roger and Sally she had four step grand children and 8 step great grand children; Brian Rogers and wife Carrie and their 2 daughters and 1 son; Shannon Rogers and wife Victoria and their son and daughter; Stephanie and husband Ben Applegate and their 3 daughters;  and Daniel Nigh.
She had many cousins on both the Wattenschaidt and Weber sides of the family. Dorothy Wilson Workman was a very special person in her life. They were as close as sisters, and Dot was always there to help Marion through the difficult times in her life.
Marion was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church and very much loved her Church family. She served on the Altar Guild, was a member of the Tuesday Quilting group, helped put out the newsletter, and attended the Thursday morning Bible Study as long as she was able.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00AM at Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale with Rev. Charles Erzkus officiating.  A luncheon will be held following the service, everyone is welcome to attend. Inurnment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg. Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing handled the arrangements.
Marion was generous in her contributions to local charities. In lieu of flowers she has asked that donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church or The Union Rescue Mission of Cumberland.  Both have a long history of serving this community.
