Aleck S. Evans, 95, of Jackson Run Road, Lonaconing died Monday, March 20, 2017 at
Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born on May 28, 1921 in
Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. Evans and Mary (Smith) Evans.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Benjamin H. Evans II, John “Jack” H. Evans
and David M. Evans, three nephews, Richard G. Evans, Edward E. Evans and Gary L.
Evans and a niece, Sally Miller.

Aleck was a 1939 graduate of Central High School. He was also a graduate of Potomac
State College and the University of Maryland. He worked as a civil engineer for Exxon.
He was the project engineer in the Structural Design and Approval Section, Bureau of
Engineering. For 13 years he worked in the Venezuelan oil fields where he designed the
first floating drilling barge used on Lake Maracaibo. He was also in Libya for several
years during his career. Aleck was an independent man who found comfort in privacy.
He read the Wall Street Journal every day, kept track of stock market ratings and enjoyed
walking down town. Keeping a daily journal was important to him, as he recorded times,
activities, temperatures and prices. Many road trips across the country, with his friend
from Baltimore the “Roadrunner,” were taken to see the New England Patriots play.

He is survived by his nephews and niece, Benjamin H. Evans III and wife Nancy, Dave
M. Evans Jr. and wife Marilyn and Sue Hughes; great-nephews and great-nieces, David
Evans, Tom Evans, Ben Evans IV, Jesse Evans, Tiffany Darr, Megan Baldwin, Morgan
Evans, John Hughes and Michael Hughes.

Family and friends will be received at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing
on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 4-6PM. Private interment will take place at Laurel Hill
Cemetery in the family plot.

So sorry to read that Aleck passed away after such a long interesting life. He was surely one of the last of the last Lonaconing old timers--a real legacy. Many memories of the Evans family. May he rest in Peace.
