Music by The Piano Brothers

On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, Roger L. Buskirk Sr., 72, of Lonaconing, MD passed

on from this life into his eternal heavenly home and the loving arms of his Lord and

Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on January 29, 1948 to the late Ruth Theresa (Snyder) and

Lloyd Van Buskirk, Roger had one sister, Mary Margaret Webb of Wisconsin, and is

preceded in death by two brothers, William (Bill) and Paul Buskirk.

Roger is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Bonnie Jean (Getson)

Buskirk, one daughter, Charlotte Marie Williams, and granddaughter, Tausha Marie

Powell. He is survived by his loyal son, Roger Buskirk Jr., adoring daughters Amanda

Buskirk and Liz Lippold, and admiring grandchildren Stephanie Williams, Bryan Powell,

Bonita Baer and husband Justin, Derek Buskirk, Carly Buskirk, Evan Williams, Matthew

Williams, Timothy Buskirk, Samantha Mills, Samantha Winebrenner, and Brandi,

Tiffany, and Scottie Morris, as well as his son-in-law, John (Jack) Williams Jr.,

numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his loyal canine companion Buffy, and

special friend in Christ, Holly Snyder.

Roger was a 1966 graduate of Valley High School. He was a simple man who made an

honest living as a self-employed logger, a profession he chose because he loved the

woods. He looked forward to mushroom hunting in the spring and could often be found

taking his gun for a walk in the woods during hunting season in the fall. He also enjoyed

watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, watching wildlife playing in the yard, playing with his

great-grandkids and dog, watching wrestling, and singing gospel music.

Roger was a devoted, loving, and supportive husband, father, brother, and grandfather

who never missed a chance to embrace you in the warmest hug possible and tell you

how much he loved you. Many of his children’s and grandchildren’s friends also lovingly

referred to him as “Dad” or “Pap” and he always treated them as his own.

Above all, Roger was a man of his word and never took his promises or vows for

granted. This defining characteristic came to fruition one day in early March 1981, which

was the day he gave his life to Christ. He was a member of the Tri-State Ministry in

Hyndman, PA and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and support of his church family.

Roger also took every opportunity possible to attend services at numerous local

churches. He faithfully attended the men’s ministry sportsman’s banquets throughout

the region, as well as many revivals and gospel concerts. He often used his beautiful

tenor voice to bless the congregation and praise the Lord in song. He never met a

stranger and always listened with an open ear. He took his responsibility as a Christian

seriously, feeling it was a duty and blessing to visit with the sick and broken-hearted,

giving to those in need, never casting judgement, praying often with thanksgiving, and

be a blessing to others in any way he could. Roger will always be a blessing to those

lives he touched with his presence and love. For all these things, he will forever be

loved and missed dearly.

Viewings will be held at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home in Lonaconing, MD from 2-4

PM and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. The family asks that anyone wishing

to pay their final respects to Roger wear a mask and practice proper social distancing

according to the CDC guidelines. A private funeral will be conducted at 10 am on

November 25, 2020 at the First Assembly of God in Lonaconing, MD, with Pastor Don

Webb presiding. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills. Roger’s

family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the First Assembly of God, Tri-

State Ministry, and all of his church families for their love and support.
